About Ron Schmidt

"At times I am still that boy peering through my lens at a dog, waiting to capture that perfect moment on film - but now, I have a way better camera!"€

Ron's love of photography started with an old Yoshika that his Uncle Russ gave him for Christmas. His first photo shoot at age 7 was a wildlife exploration around his suburban New Jersey neighborhood. That day, he took his first animal photos — of city squirrels and of his dog, Nicki.

Over the years, his interest in photography grew and Ron attended the Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara. After graduation, Ron spent a number of years in New York City assisting high profile fashion and celebrity photographers. While working with supermodels was exciting, he was drawn to more conceptual images and branched out on his own in 1999 to do commercial photography. Ron found his niche creating unique dog images when he designed a holiday card that featured his yellow lab Indy carrying a tree on her back. From that point on, he has focused his work around what he truly loves, dogs and photography. Loose Leashes was launched in May 2005.
